Our safari was curated with expertise, professionalism and with a personal touch for our family!
5/5

Tapestry of Africa curated a 14 day safari in Kenya and Tanzania with private guides and luxury lodges. Matt worked with our family to develop a perfect trip; he met with us via Zoom to describe each day, showed excellent examples of our lodges with included meals, and educated us on how to prepare for the trip. Our Kenya driver/expert guide, Kim, picked us up in Nairobi and immediately started us off toward our game drive in Ol Pejeta Convervancy. Upon entering the gates, we immediately saw elephants, giraffes, zebra, then were amazed at a male and female lion walking right next to our vehicle, then stalking a warthog. Kim was professional, kind, and knowledgeable about all the animals and the best places to spy them. During our trip we spied 3 different leopards, which are typically elusive animals, but Kim guided us to them knowing where they typically stay. Each luxury lodge we stayed at was special with such friendly and expert service, beautiful accommodations, excellent and delicious food. We even took a hot air balloon ride over the savanna to see the animals and beautiful sunrise. Tapestry’s staff would keep in touch on a daily basis to make sure our needs were met. In addition to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, we went to Lake Nakuru National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve, then to Tanzania where our guide, Eddie, was equally knowledgeable and professional to guide us through Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, then back to Kenya with Kim to guide us through Ambroseli National Park. Everywhere we went, it seemed the animals seemed to come to us or walk right by our vehicle. We saw elephants, lions, hippos, rhinos, buffalos, zebras, giraffes wildebeest, hyenas, cheetah, leopards, warthogs, gazelle, meerkats, every kind of African bird, the beautiful Masai people, the famous baobab trees, ancient volcanoes and Mount Kilimanjaro! Our first trip to Africa captured our hearts and we can not wait to come back for our next adventure!

A Perfect and Unforgettable Trip
5/5

Our trip to Africa was simply unforgettable! If we could sum up the experience organized by Tapestry in one word, it would be perfection. Everything was planned down to the smallest detail and exceeded all of our expectations.
The safaris in Masai Mara and Serengeti were magical! Seeing the wildlife so close was thrilling, and it was only possible thanks to Tapestry's wonderful guides. What fantastic professionals! They were relentless and completely committed to finding the animals for us to see. With so much patience and knowledge, they guaranteed us unbelievable moments in the savanna.
The hotels chosen by the company were also a highlight of their own: memorable, super comfortable, and perfectly integrated into nature. We were welcomed with so much warmth, and the service was impeccable from start to finish.
We came back home with hearts full of joy and gratitude. Congratulations, Tapestry, on your amazing work with tourism in Africa. You are awesome! 🦁❤️

Exceptional Customer Satisfaction
5/5

Recently, four friends and I embarked on an unforgettable 12-day adventure in East Africa, comprising a 6-day safari tour through Kenya and Tanzania, followed by a 6-day Kilimanjaro hike. For the safari portion, we chose a new company called "Tapestry of Africa" (TOA) after extensive research and discussions with several tour operators.

TOA stood out from the competition for several reasons:
> Unique itinerary: They were the only company willing to plan a drive from Masai Mara to Serengeti through the jungle and villages, an experience other operators weren't offering.
> Comprehensive coverage: TOA's tour included four national parks across two countries: Masai Mara National Reserve (Kenya), Amboseli National Park (Kenya), Serengeti National Park (Tanzania), and Ngorongoro Crater National Park (Tanzania).
> Competitive pricing: Despite covering more destinations (about 30% more) than other companies, TOA's quote was lower than their competitors.
> Quality transportation: They provided comfortable Safari 4x4 Land Cruiser vehicles for our entire journey.

Throughout the safari, TOA demonstrated exceptional flexibility, accommodating our group's preferences whenever possible within the schedule. Their commitment to customer satisfaction was evident in every aspect of the tour.

After the safari, we transitioned to our Kilimanjaro hike, which was organized by a different company. Impressively, TOA took the initiative to coordinate with our hiking tour operator, ensuring a smooth handoff between the two experiences. This level of service went above and beyond our expectations.

In retrospect, our group is fully satisfied with our choice of TOA for the safari portion of our trip. Their willingness to customize our itinerary, their competitive pricing, and their dedication to providing a comprehensive and flexible experience made our African adventure truly memorable.

I highly recommend Tapestry of Africa to anyone planning a safari in Kenya and Tanzania with friends or family. Their commitment to customer satisfaction and their ability to offer unique, value-packed experiences sets them apart in the competitive world of African safaris.

Absolutely stunning Safari, perfectly organized by Tapestry
5/5

I'm back from a truly wonderful Safari experience, perfectily organized by Matt and his team. Matt was great and had to show quite some flexibility in making quotes as our request were of very short notice time and we had some late changes in our plans he had to deal with. But he did a great job and gave us the feeling to have chosen Tapestry was the right idea. And it was. First i went with a friend on a 6-day private tour in Kenya. We visited Ol'Pajeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara (2 nights), Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate. Matt, Hilda and Albert did a great job with the hotels/lodges, and our driver/guide John was an excellent choice too. He had a great eye for spotting animals. He almost always saw everything interesting first, although we tried very hard on our privileged place on top of the Land Cruiser. Where we saw stones or bushes, he saw a lion in the grass or a leopard lying in front of a bush far away. Hence we saw the big 5 and a lot, lot more on our Kenya Safari Trip already. All mentioned parks are worth a visit and are different from each other so it never got boring. I then went alone on another 7-day safari in Tanzania, where i started with a new driver, Yudah, in Arusha and we visited Tarangire (2 nights), Serengeti (3 nights), Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Again all the hotels/lodges were great choices, Yudah was a really competent and great guide/driver as well. I had an unbelievable blast on both safaris, and our drivers had a lot to do with that. I also learnt a really lot of them about the animals, how to differ between females and males on baby animals, their speeds, behaviours etc etc. Wow. Thank you Team Tapestry for this absolutely stunning experience you made possible for us/me.

Exceptional
5/5

Tapestry of Africa planned and executed a phenomenal safari tour of Tanzania and Kenya. It was a luxury tour, with knowledgeable and caring tour guides, comfortable safari vehicles, exceptional hotels/lodges and many well planned safari tours.
Planning and booking with Matt was an absolute pleasure. Matt gave some great recommendations, suggested many well thought through alternatives and helped plan around all my needs!
Hilda booked all the places and provided great details on what to expect. Hilda and Matt were fantastic in helping us replan as I moved some dates and extended some stays and added some flights. They were a joy to plan and book with.

The Kenya and Tanzania guides they arranged were fantastic! We got to see all the big five (many times), plus lots and lots of animals, birds and reptiles. It was a truly mesmerizing experience, mainly because the guides knew where to take us at what time of the day.

Visited Nairobi, Masai Mara NP, Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro, Arusha, Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Serval and Amboseli NP’s. All accommodations were five star, all food was exceptional and the safari times were well paced.

I would absolutely recommend booking with Tapestry of Africa for all your African safari and travel needs. I certainly will be booking through them again very shortly.

Matt and the Tapestry of Africa team gave us an East Africa safari experience that we won't ever for
5/5

This is a long review so apologies in advance.

Last August we travelled to Africa for the first time. We joined a small group (16 person) safari tour that travelled overland from Zimbabwe to South Africa. It was an amazing holiday and we saw things we’d only dreamt about and it left us wanting to see more.

We knew we wanted to visit eastern Africa, roughly where, when and for how long for. We also knew that even 16 was too many. SafariBookings is such a great resource to search for operators that can deliver what you’re after. We were amazed to find for not a lot more than last year’s trip we could actually take a private safari.

Tapestry of Africa was one of a couple of companies we contacted. One was very well established and Tapestry was a very new operator. We were initially looking at Kenya and Uganda/Rwanda. Both companies responded quickly and with great options but they weren’t working for us. We asked Matt if they were operating the 20 day Grand Kenya and Tanzania Expedition we’d seen on SafariBookings and when Matt said yes, we knew it was the tour for us. We also really liked Tapestry’s payment and cancellation policy.

Matt worked to make the tour fit our budget and our needs. We weren’t looking for a luxury tour. Mid-range is our thing. For medical reasons we just needed a guarantee of an ensuite bathroom. Matt prepared a quote with the details of proposed lodges and mid-range looked pretty amazing!

Over the next short while we worked closely with Matt to get the tour to be exactly what we wanted. We then added a friend to the tour and now it was just a matter of counting down the months until we made the long journey from Australia to Kenya.

We had more questions and these were answered quickly by Matt and Hilda.

Regular emails were sent to us with important information regarding what to expect, and to remember to organise visas and vaccinations. The one list that wasn’t really great was the packing list. If we’d used the provided list and packed for four weeks we would have needed an extra vehicle!! Every lodge we stayed at for two nights offered laundry. Our advice is to pack light and smart and plan to wash regularly.

As a gay couple we also had some concerns about travelling to two countries with laws/policies that could affect us but Matt assured us the safari industry was welcoming and not to be worried.

Itinerary - five stars
Price - five stars
Communication - five stars

Our friend travelled on his own to Nairobi and arrived early on the same day as us. Albert met our friend at the airport, and Kevin, another Tapestry staff member, met us. My partner and I are quite independent travellers and we booked our own airfares, and the hotels we stayed at the start and end of our tour.

The safari. Just one word describes it - amazing.

Our guide to be Jackson contacted me the night before to let us know what time he would be at the hotel to pick us up. He was there waiting for us the next morning when we came down from our room. It was a surreal experience to realise that Kigwara, the Landcruiser safari vehicle in the hotel driveway, was just for us.

Then we were on our way to Meru National Park and it was very clear we were all going to get on fantastically. And we did. Jackson was brilliant - funny, caring and organised. He was a great driver, a great spotter and became a great friend.

Safaris are always pot luck as to what you’ll see. Go expecting to be surprised. We chose not to travel in high season to try to avoid the crowds. It means the animals might not be as abundant but it also means you might be alone when you do see them. And see them we did.

We visited Meru, Samburu, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara in Kenya before crossing into Tanzania. For all of us, Samburu was the highlight of Kenya part one. Gorgeous landscapes, an amazing lodge and so many animals. Big five and special five already seen in the first four days of our safari!

On the whole, travel days were quite short, nearly all under five hours. The one day that was very, very long was when we crossed the border into Tanzania and travelled to the Serengeti. Considering the Mara and Serengeti are the same gigantic reserve, 13 hours is a long day, lodge to lodge. One thing I have to stress here is to make sure that you have the little vaccination book with your yellow fever vax recorded. Our friend had the vax but not the book, and had to pay USD50 to get one.

Ernest, our Tanzania guide, was very different to Jackson. Quiet and reserved but so knowledgeable and a great wildlife spotter.

The Serengeti was awesome. 40+ lions over two days. Ngorongoro was like being in a giant open range zoo. Lake Manyara and Tarangire, elephant heaven.

Only one itinerary glitch. When we drove straight past the entrance to Lake Manyara NP I asked Ernest why we hadn’t entered. I showed Ernest our itinerary and he just wasn’t aware. A couple of quick phone calls back to the office and the issue was resolved. Lake Manyara was really fantastic. I’m glad I spoke up.

Then it was back to Kenya for elephant overload - Amboseli, where we went on a balloon ride gazing at a perfectly clear Kilimanjaro, and finally the two Tsavos.

You can’t do anything about the roads and some of them are bad, REALLY bad. Be prepared. Into and out of our lodge at Masai Mara won the prize for worst, followed closely by the road out of Lake Naivasha. The road from Serengeti to Ngorongoro was high speed corrugated hell as well.

The seats in our vehicle were super comfortable, and for three the vehicle was perfect, as we could slide the first and middle row seats to make more room for each of us.

Our lodges without exception were all excellent. We slept in a mix of large safari tents and permanent structures. We had just one issue. This was at Fig Tree Camp after our first night and it was resolved by Jackson the next morning. Don’t ever hesitate to raise issues with your guide. They are there to help you.

For me the highlight was Acacia’s Enkirari Wilderness Camp in the Serengeti, a tented camp surrounded by gnu and zebra massing before the migration. Meals were usually served as buffets, were freshly prepared and there was good variety. Some will of course not do it, but I ate salads and fruit, and drank cocktails with ice and suffered no ill effects.

Hilda and Albert were in constant contact via WhatsApp, checking how things were going and asking us to let us know if anything needed following up.

We can’t recommend Tapestry of Africa highly enough. If I could have, I would have turned around and retraced our steps in the reverse order.

The most caring and personal tour operators I have experienced.
5/5

I started planning my safari vacation a year ahead and after reviewing several operators, I chose to go with Tapestry of Africa. Initially it was because of the quick response to my many queries, their patience with my constantly changing itinerary and their ability to immediately understand that this was a dream vacation for my family and I. Matt, Albert and Hilda worked with me patiently for 8 months on the most suitable itinerary, best accommodation within my budget and the experiences I was looking for - meticulously planning every minute detail. Matt’s input was invaluable and he sent me photos and videos of places, accommodations and experiences that we could have. I was indecisive about Lake Naivasha and Matt took a video of his boat ride on the lake to show me what it would be like! I was not sure of the lodge in Amboseli and Matt sent me a personal photo of his visit to Amboseli……The trip was perfect in every aspect thanks to Tapestry. In fact it was beyond expectation. There is not one thing I would change.

I have traveled extensively in many countries and I have worked with a lot of tour operators, but with Tapestry of Africa, I felt like I had a friend or family helping me plan this vacation.

From the day we landed in Nairobi till the day we returned home, someone from Tapestry was always checking in on us - was the drive ok, was the accommodation ok, how the safari was going, did we need anything….I felt I had a friend who was looking out for us at all times. Of course we saw a lot of animals, of course the places we visited were magical and the experience simply out of this world. But the best part of the vacation was the service and care provided by Tapestry. Hilda checked on us as we were waiting to board our return flight, after the vacation! I have never had a tour operator make sure I reached home safe and sound after the vacation! Hilda made sure we reached home! Along with helping plan the most perfect vacation, Tapestry will provide personal care and attention. They go above and beyond their call of duty.

We went to Kenya for a vacation and returned not only with fabulous memories and unforgettable moments but also with a deep bond with the team at Tapestry. Most tour operators will organize a safari vacation but Tapestry stands out as one that truly cares about their clients.

Personalized, hands-on care. Treated like family!
5/5

Our 10-day African safari to Kenya and Tanzania was magical and memorable! We are so glad we chose to go with Tapestry of Africa because we were taken care of from the very beginning, from the video call to discuss itinerary options and prompt answers to every question (and there were a lot). The suggested accommodations were beyond expectations (even got the honeymoon suite at one - which was nice since we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary) and the food at each of them was excellent - some offering à la cart and others buffet style, which made for a nice variety during our stay.

Albert, Hilda and Matt were there checking in on us prior to the trip and throughout and our guides, Alex and Ernest, took care of us through each of the parks and made sure we saw animals and had a great time. We really loved having the pop-up roof Land Cruiser all to ourselves and the personalized care and insights that each guide provided.

We were very happy with the time of year we chose to go - as the weather was not too hot or too cold and not crowded!

The bonus of booking with Tapestry of Africa was the humanitarian efforts that the organization provides with dental care to underserved African communities!

conscientious and thoughtful

Tapestry of Africa worked very hard to make our trip enjoyable and stress free. Everyone was very helpful and our guides were great. Communication before and during our trip was great. One of our bags was lost during our flight and Tapestry worked hard to get it to us as soon as possible I do think it is helpful to have local currency and if you are using a land crossing from Kenya to Tanzania cash in US dollars or Tanzanian shillings was required to get visas.

Thank you for the experience of a lifetime
5/5

We have just come back from our first (and it will definitely not be the last Safari) in Kenya and Tanzania. The whole family felt it was the best holiday ever! Tapestry of Africa were with us every step of the way from planning, suggesting alternatives and customizing our programme to fit our specific timeline adapting from their standard prtogrammes to being with us every step of the way. Logistics and safety cannot be taken for granted and Tapestry made sure we sorted out all the documentation on time, got all the advice, were there to pick us up from NAirobi airport all the way throughout our stay. Excellent guides in Masai Mara, Serengeti and in our stay in Zanzibar and 24 hour service from their Head office in Nairobi to sort out everything. They selected 2 great lodges and helped with logitcs with planes, and jeeps within the two conutries which is no small feat always available for any request. We definitely recommend them and will use them for our next Safari!
