We chose to visit SA because of the diversity of tourist attractions.

We found the package from Viva Safari and MoAfria through this platform.

We chose to visit SA because of the diversity of tourist attractions; you could experience safari tours, majestic geological landscapes, and UNESCO-certified historical sites. South Africa is one of the top 3 richest countries in Africa based on GDP, yet the government is interested in lining their pockets. Because of this and structural societal problems, unemployment and crime are high. You need to be careful when traveling in SA. As a foreigner, you should avoid being outside after dark.

When people learn that I have been to SA, the question I'm most often asked is “Did you see the big five walking in the streets.” The answer is no. I feel like this is a common stereotype that Asians have about Africa. Our first stop was Jozi, the city of gold and diamonds, which was prosperous, you could see many different international companies located in gorgeous and architecturally innovative
Read more buildings, and the environment was clean and tidy with well-dressed pedestrians.

The scenery began to change as we entered Soweto. At first, there were several pretty houses with gardens in the wealthy neighborhood which were located close to the freeway off-ramp. However, when we went deep into the town , I began to feel like the residents were living inside of a big garbage dump. Although the government sends cleaning units to come and clean up once a week, they can never keep up with the speed that people produce garbage. On the other hand, the majority of the black residents make a living by picking up recyclable products from the trash. Therefore, trash is gold to them. We had the privilege to meet with a young adult who lives in a shack with 7 family members. She walked with us in the slums and showed us a local preschool, where 60 kids study in a container house with only 3 teachers. I couldn't imagine how busy the teachers are during lunchtime.

In the second half of our trip, we flew to Cape Town. After we had settled down in our accommodation and bought some food for the next few days, we decided to go for a walk along the Atlantic ocean in the late afternoon, starting from the V&A Waterfront shopping center to Rockland Beach. Although it was only a 4km walk, we took an hour and a half to reach our destination. The sweeping view of the ocean with a beautiful sunset was truly amazing, which made up for our regret at not being able to see the sunset during the safari. There were many people walking, running or cycling along the seawall park, and we were jealous of the people who had built their homes there. The mini-golf area in the park caught our attention and we had fun watching families competing. The funniest thing was that a runner got too close to the seaside and he got soaked because a big wave hit the shore.

Overall, although nowhere we went was very crowded, the long queues for the Cape Point “Flying Dutchman” funicular, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, and Robben Island ferry surprised us. Even so, the attractions are definitely worth waiting for. Finally, I love the unique way that black people called my parents; instead of addressing them by their titles or names, they always said Papa and Mama.

South African Safari Dream comes to life

Visited South Africa in October 2025, and done a tour to that went to Kruger National Park and the surrounds. Whilst the mornings are early starts and the days are long, it makes it worth it when you enter the safari tracks and you spot a big 5 (or even a Giraffe) out in the wild, where you are only metres away from that animal in a safari vehicle with no fences in the way to stop you.

Make sure you have your battery packs at full charge and your camera/phone on photo or video mode to capture a moment instantly. To see a Giraffe running out in front of you, to, two Rhinos about to charge and fight, you don't want to miss those moments... moments you won't see in a zoo, ever!

And if you've been to a Zoo, you'll wish you did a Safari sooner, as the experience will leave you grinning from ear to ear once you return home and share those stories.

South Africa has stunning wildlife, terrific food and really friendly people.

South Africa is a fantastic destination for a safari. We went to Sabi Sands and had a magical time and were really well looked after. The wildlife was breathtaking and the staff went above and beyond. Had a few days in Johannesburg as my husband works there. The South Africans are absolutely delightful, I felt so welcomed and the food is superb. All the locals are very friendly however there is a high crime rate in Johannesburg so you can't really wander off and explore. Having said that we did a bus tour which was very interesting and we learnt a lot about the city. There is also a nice shopping mall. My husband went to Capetown on business and loved it, stunning place.

South Africa was an experience of a lifetime. We did not see much of Johannesburg as we left for a safari in Sabi Sands. Learned a lot about the local culture and did a scenic tour of the canyon and waterfalls. Food was excellent everywhere we ate! The scenery is stunning. We had a guide every step of the way, so I am unsure of the safety of the area if we were on our own.
